Giovinco Leaves Toronto FC For Al-Hilal

Jan 31, 2019 2:50 PM

Al-Hilal purchased Giovinco for between $2-$3 million from Toronto FC.

The 32-year-old Giovinco, the 2015 MLS MVP, slammed the organization in an Instagram post.

"For the 2 years I have been seeking to extend my contract however management was reluctant. Recently, after refusing to exercise the club option for 2020, I was offered terms that I deemed unacceptable. They may say I left for a more lucrative deal, but this is not the case. Their offer and lack of transparency is a clear message. It seems management prefers to focus on things other than the pure desire to win. After having grown the brand and elevating the overall reputation of TFC both at home and abroad, it seems I no longer serve a purpose. I would have accepted less to stay in Toronto," wrote Giovinco.

Ike Opara Traded To Minnesota United For $900K

Jan 30, 2019 1:33 AM

Sporting KC traded Ike Opara to Minnesota United for $900,000 of TAM.

Opara, the 2017 MLS Defender of the Year, asked for a raise two months ago.

“Going into this offseason we had targeted positions we felt were important to our success moving forward and this is another huge step to us achieving our goals. We’ve just added a player who has challenged for U.S. Open Cup, Supporters' Shield and MLS Cup virtually every year, he won’t accept anything other than winning. When you added him to the likes of Ozzie Alonso, Jan Gregus, Romain Metanire, and the core group of players returning this year, we’ve set ourselves up to be successful going in to Allianz Field," said Adrian Heath.

Manchester City Sell Rabbi Matondo To Schalke

Jan 28, 2019 7:51 PM

Rabbi Matondo is expected to move to Schalke for just under $16 million.

The 18-year-old represents the third player from City's youth academy to move away from the club in the last two years.

The club are said to not be as concerned by Matondo's move as he is not near the quality of displacing Riyad Mahrez or Bernardo Silva.

“Yeah, I have some comments – I know how good he is, incredibly fast winger, and a young talent. This club is working so good. All the players in the academy, we trust them. If they want to be patient and stay; if they want to leave, they leave," said Guardiola.
